A House Is Not A Home

June Cleaver- what a classy lady
Aside from getting married and spending the rest of my life with my love, one of the things that most excited me about getting engaged is creating a registry!!! I know it sounds so June Cleaver, but I love domestic activities like cooking and decorating…. cleaning not so much, but I’m just waiting to hit it big to get a full-time maid and not have to worry about that task.

My current arsenal of kitchen supplies includes: hand-me-downs from my parents’ house, things I purchased when I was in college, some items I’ve collected on my own and free cups and swag I’ve gotten along the way. Creating a list and getting “upgraded” is my idea of pure bliss!

In choosing where to register I considered a few things:

  • A location that is accessible to all of our guests, local and otherwise
  • A store that has items that I truly love
  • Selection of products
  • Quality of products

Macy’s was really the best option for me. I have found their site extremely user-friendly and they also give great tips for creating your registry. As one piece of advice, they recommend selecting twice as many registry items as guests. I am breaking that rule, but I understand their thought process behind this suggestion. Each guest is not going buy a high dollar item or some guests may buy several lower cost items so it’s important to have enough options on your registry to make your guests comfortable in selecting your gift. I recommend spreading out your registry items as noted below:

  • 60% of your items between $20-$75
  • 25% between $76-$175
  • the remaining 15% $176 and above

The list above can vary, but the most important thing is to know your guests and what’s appropriate for them. Your list shouldn’t put undo stress on your guests’ bank accounts. Remember, each gift is special and the cost of the item doesn’t necessarily correspond to the love your guests have for you 🙂

My registry does contain a few items that I’ve wanted, but haven’t set aside time or money to purchase so I’m definitely excited to see gifts start rolling in so I can play with all these new items!

Oh happy day!!
