I Love You Like a Fat Kid Loves Cake

As much as I love food, I am remiss that I haven’t talked much about the food aspect of our wedding! So far, the only food item officially selected is the wedding cake. Wedding cake starts around $4-5 per serving (basically per person) and can increase in cost depending upon detail, flavors and other factors. Rather than wedding cake, some couples choose cupcakes for their wedding. Cupcakes can range in price from $3-4 and are great options because you don’t have to worry about the time associated with cutting slices of cake and you have more flexibility to have multiple flavors. We chose to go with a wedding cake and just to give you one tidbit — our wedding will have a theme, which is so fun especially when it comes to cake! There are so many ways to have fun with your cake and let your true personality or the theme of the wedding shine through. Here are a few wedding cake trends I’ve seen over the last year as I looked through Pinterest:

Our cake tasting was phenomenal and we definitely chose a cake that design that matches with our theme. There were so many flavors to choose from that I was worried that James and I wouldn’t agree, but it was so easy to eliminate some and get on the same page. We chose to eliminate the chocolate cakes from the beginning because we’re not a big fan of chocolate cake, but the others we had to choose from were so excellent that we decided to have two flavors on our cake.

During the creation of our design, we were given the option of Cake pichaving an extra layer of cake or using a faux layer at the bottom. To my shock, a faux layer would have cost around $200! That’s crazy considering it is totally inedible. Thankfully we were able to go with all real layers, so we can enjoy every last bit. Also, I’m excited that our wedding cake vendor recreates the top of the cake for our one year anniversary. I think that’s such a sweet touch!

Now, I’m just hoping James doesn’t smash cake in my face on our wedding day. I hit him in the back of the neck with a snowball last week and he hasn’t gotten payback yet!
